I have worked at Welch's for 13 years and was part of the group that made the move from western PA/NY to Massachusetts to open the new Technology Center 10 years ago.  My family loved western PA and has many ties to the area, but the recognition of Welch’s as a great place to work motivated us to make the move.  I have remained at Welch’s first of all because of the work environment, which I think is best described as a family atmosphere, and one where I feel empowered to instill my ideas to improve systems and deliver results.  Second I feel a strong sense of personal pride about our products, the high quality standards they represent, and the power of the brand with consumers, which is evident when talking to friends outside of Welch's. Third, being structured with grower owners (the National Grape Cooperative Association) helps to assure that the company’s long term best interests are genuinely being served.  Indeed Welch’s provides a unique employment opportunity for those who share its values and passion for fruit based, high quality products

I have worked at Welch's for approximately 7 months.  Before coming to Welch’s, I had several job offers that I was considering and I choose Welch’s because of the people, the culture, and the opportunities to continue learning.

During the interview process, I felt a very positive connection with each of the interviewers.  Seven months into the job, I continue to be impressed with my colleagues.  The people at Welch’s are friendly, committed to the business, and easy to work with.  There is a lot of pride in the company and our products and it really shows.  While Welch’s has almost 1,200 employees, the culture feels like it is a much smaller company.  The CEO and other senior management frequently "walk the halls" and make an effort to get to know employees.  Work/life balance is also an important goal of our culture, things like offering of on site seminars about topics of interest, such as financial well being.   Another way Welch’s is distinctive in the marketplace is the emphasis on continuous learning.  The company has an excellent tuition reimbursement program as well as on the job training.  I have already begun to take advantage of the tuition program and have been impressed with the support I have received from management in this objective.

I joined Welch’s a year ago after 20 years with a Fortune 500 company.  What made me make the move was the opportunity to have a direct and immediate impact on the business.  Welch’s is a small company with a great brand and that’s a terrific combination.  Every role at Welch’s offers a broader opportunity for personal growth and business impact than the same role at any company with a comparable brand.  Understanding the opportunity for a personal challenge was critical for me, but even more important is the culture and the direction of the business.  The environment at Welch’s is business focused and people oriented.  It is absolutely clear every day that we are working together to drive the business results that we have committed ourselves to deliver.  At the same time, respect for the individual and commitment to the success of the team are ever presents.  I genuinely enjoy working with everyone in the organization. 

As a business, Welch's is in the process of transforming itself into a brand delivering innovation to the market and an organization with the information systems and operational capacity to exceed customer expectations at competitive costs.  There’s more to do and it requires talented people with the energy and passion to be part of a great team.  I’ve been impressed with the people that have come after me and I look forward to the changes that are coming in the future.
